Silverback to build New Mexico patrol boat with Petestep hull
Silverback Marine, Tacoma, Wash., has begun building the first U.S. law enforcement vessel to feature Petestep hull technology, under contract for New Mexico State Parks.
Developed in collaboration with Petestep, the 21’ x 8.5’ vessel is designed to improve handling, comfort, and fuel efficiency for marine patrol operations, Silverback said in a press release. The release highlighted Petestep’s patented design that uses angled deflectors to redirect spray water. The company notes this reduces slamming forces by up to 50% and delivering an average 30% reduction in overall impact. The manufacturer claims the design also boosts speed and fuel efficiency by up to 35%.

Silverback said it spent more than a year gathering input from marine law enforcement officers to inform the layout and functional requirements of the boat. Feedback emphasized the need for improved operator comfort and better beach access from the bow. The vessel features an 18”-wide bow door for landings, full-perimeter non-marking fendering, and an enclosed helm area. SHOXS suspension seating, dual weapon lockers, and a full WHELEN lighting and siren package are included as standard. Powered by a Mercury SeaPro 300-hp outboard engine, the vessel is expected to offer a top speed over 60 mph. The boat is built to operate in rivers, lakes, bays, and modest offshore conditions, the statement said.
Delivery is scheduled for late summer 2025.
